Dr. Verghese travels every year to remote locations in Northeast India, the border of China and India, Myanmar, the slums of Kolkata, Mumbai and other regions where people suffer from starvation, malnutrition, homelessness and numerous diseases. These maladies include mosquito-borne illnesses such as Zika, Dengue, Malaria, West Nile Virus, Chikungunya, Filariasis and a long list of others.
While in India, Dr. Verghese ministered both spiritually and physically, spreading medicine as he did the Word of God, to refugees who had never been to a doctor. His relatives in the area, who also spread the Word of God, took him to off-the-map locations to see the poorest of the poor.
As you can see in these pictures, they make their roofs out of blue waterproof tarps and bamboo and palm leaves. Their toilets are 1-foot holes in the ground. The area has poor soil so they can barely grow enough food to feed their families one meal a day. More about Medical Camp.
